Please congratulate all of the Shelbyville High School students who attended the Indiana State Latin Convention for their amazing accomplishments this past weekend at IU.
12 Shelbyville Latin Students competed at IJCL State Latin Convention on Fri & Sat this past weekend at IU. We had 126 top-10 placings, earning us 1st place overall in small school Sweepstakes with a substantial margin of over 200 points!
Other school awards included 2nd place for delegate spirit (highest in Shelbyville history!) and 2nd place in chapter t-shirt design.
In addition, the dynamic duo of Oliva Bowman and Leila Patrick earned the 'Fan Favorite' award for their performance of "Patris Ioca" or "Dad jokes" about Latin class.
Our 1st place trophy and ribbon will be proudly displayed in the SHS hallway cases soon!
Individually, congratulations are due to these ladies whose individual efforts earned our school this amazing award:
- Anna Ballast, 58 points, including 2nd place in both Constructed Charts and Greek Derivatives
- Ev Barnum, 65 points, including 3rd place in both Modern Myth and Jewelry
- Olivia Bowman, 56 points, including 3rd place in both Latin Derivatives and Constructed Charts
- Isabella Bradburn, 73 points, including 1st place in Latin Grammar, Pentathlon, and Advanced Reading Comprehension
- Sydney Brown, 11 points, including 4th place in Roman Life & Customs
- Lilly Conners, 66 points, including 2nd place in Dolls
- Cora Flynn, 79 points, including 2nd place in Hellenic History
- Leila Patrick, 33 points including 1st place in Roman Life & Customs
- Sharielis Rodriguez, 62 points, including 1st place in Latin Derivatives
- Andrea Rosales, 80 points, including 3rd place in both Geography & Colored Pencil
-Addysyn Wettrick, 74 points, including 1st place in Latin Derivatives
- Madelyn Scott, who led the way with 151 points overall in a large variety of academic tests, graphic arts submissions, and creative arts contests. Among many examples, Madelyn earned 2nd place in Costume, 1st place in Greek derivatives, and 1st in Impromptu Art.
